O Muslims of Iraq, you are in our prayers.
There seems to be a lot of uproar because of a recent report issued by the US military stating that marines killed civilians intentionally. As the media will undoubtedly go back and forth criticizing and justifying (or trying to) the events that took place, I’m amazed no one seems to question the hundreds of thousands of lives lost in Iraq so far. Call it intentional, call it collateral damage. The fact remains that innocents were, are, and, will be killed in the days and months to come.
What’s worse, it doesn’t end for the Iraqis here. Imagine, for a moment, that the occupying forces were to leave Iraq tomorrow. The result would be infighting and civil war. Afghanistan after the Soviets is a good example. With the ouster of Saddam Hussain, there has been created a power vacuum that still hasn’t been filled. The drama over the nomination of the Presidential candidate goes to show just how uncertain the various power factions in Iraq are and how little trust there exists amongst the various factions.
Add to the above, the collapse of Iraqi infrastructure and we have a nation that has been utterly destroyed and sent back at least 50 years. It is hard to calculate the psychological damage years of sanctions and now this war has done to the Iraqi populace.
The actions of a few (or many) irresponsible leaders, who do not enjoy the support of the people are the cause of this. War mongering and profiteering; these are the flimsy reasons for which the lives of innocent Iraqis and American Soldiers have been traded.
Who can give redress to the countless people who’ve been killed, or worse, have to witness their loved one’s dying before them? Who’ll punish these arrogant leaders for their war crimes and indifference to basic human values?
The answer is, No one. Except Allah
. He will bring to account all perpetrators of crimes and also give justice to the countless that have suffered, at the hands of the arrogant few.
In the end, we pray for all those Muslims who suffer a war that is not of their making and we pray against those who are the cause of this suffering and death

Yes and no. God helps those who help themselves. While I agree of course that only God can punish them, people all over the world have a role to play.
Prayer is necessary but not sufficient to bring an end to this injustice.
Great blog. I too found it ironic that people can kill with impunity as long as it’s ‘by the rules.’
