How insensitive can we get?
It has become routine now. Not a day passes but we do not hear of it. Initially it was taken with a lot of surprise and shock. Later on it has become just another headline. Do we care? Are we even aware of what our brothers and sisters are forced to endure?
These, dear readers, are some very strong questions that we need to ask. Not a day passed but we hear of the killing of innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are reports in the media of another scandal, ‘greater than Abu Ghraib.’ The prison scandal was about torture and humiliation of inmates. Although deaths at the hands of the prison guards were scarcely reported, there is little doubt that it must have occurred.
The latest scandal I’m talking about is the one at Haditha, where marines, in cool blood, killed more than a dozen members of a family. All of this, sadly, was witnessed by a 12 year old girl. Imagine… for a moment… your baby sister or your little daughter, you so dearly hug when she comes running to you… having to witness her entire family murdered! By a group of trigger happy maniacs who have no sense of humanity, no sense of justice. Led by a group of even more blood thirsty, barbaric, terrorist leaders.
Hypocritical as the western world is, had this been an American or British girl, and lets say some Iranian men came in to their home and murdered all the family members. At point blank! We’d have the whole nation of Iran pounded with bunker busting nuclear weapons.
Now, that I come to think of it, the leaders of the current administration would very much love for this to happen. Just like 9/11 suited their needs and was the launch pad of their mission of war mongering. Another incident to manipulate the American masses would be just ideal. What with Bush and Blair having approval ratings down in the south pole.
As a final note, I’d probably like to mention the fact that the western media would have you think that this incident at Haditha is a one-off case. Don’t be fooled! This slaughter of innocents happens on a regular basis and proof of this is the undying insurgency in Iraq and now off late in Afghanistan. What else is a bigger motivation, than to see people of your nation being killed mercilessly by a foreign occupying force. Think about this the next time you hug your little daughter or sister.
