Suicide bombings, firing at innocents, crashing planes etc … are acts of terrorism and killing of the innocent. The media has left no effort to blame “Islam” and “Muslims” for all violence in the world. I agree that there might be “Muslims” involved but not Islam. Islam means peace, a religion that preaches peace, brotherhood and harmony among Muslims themselves and with the rest of the world.

Islam is the fastest growing religion on the planet! Why is it that people accept Islam if it were to preach violence, terrorism and killing of the innocent? The Quran clearly says that if a person kills an innocent it is as if he has killed the whole of humanity whether it be for personal benefit or to spread mischief in the land and if a person saves a life it is as he saved the whole of humanity. This verse mentioned in Surah Al Maida verse 32 speaks for itself.

There are many verses, which command muslims to be patient, kind, and loving not only to their families but to the poor and also the Non Muslims. Islam prohibits the killing of children, old and the women at any cost. Such a beautiful religion is today blamed for preaching terrorism. A non Muslim who reads the Quran once, with understanding, accepts Islam because its beautiful preaching attracts the reader and makes him wonder and seek the truth which finally leads him to Islam.

Islam tells its followers to show peace with the enemy if they surrender and promise peace, not to enslave them and torture. (Surah Al Anfaal verse 61). It asks its followers to be patient in all respects and hide the anger and hatred that grows within. The Quran says that all Muslims are like a brotherhood, so make peace between two quarrelling Muslims (Surah Al Hujurat verse 10). It asks its followers to walk modestly on the earth and even if an ignorant person tries to humiliate you and uses abusive language, reply to them saying “Peace” (Surah Al Furqan verse 63).

Islam at no costs permits its followers to fight without a valid reason. It forbids to fight unless if you are being driven out of your homes or your people are being attacked. Islam only preaches to fight in self defense. Islam teaches to be generous and kind towards orphans, to help those in need, for the ransom of slaves and practice charity regularly (Surah Al Baqara verse 177)..

Many people have a misconception that Islam was spread by the sword. That people were forced to accept Islam or else they were slaughtered. No place is this mentioned in the Quran. It is true that sometimes force was used but it had always been the last priority. And how can it be proven that Islam didn’t spread by sword? Well read the next paragraphs.

In Arabia, where Muslims ruled for over 1400 years, the home of the two holy shrines, if Muslims used the sword to spread Islam, by now there should have been 100 percent Arab Muslims walking in Arabia. But there are 14 million Arab Christians.

Majority of the populations of Malaysia and Indonesia are Muslims! The places where no Muslim army ever landed! A similar case is the East Coast of Africa. No Muslim armies ever walked on these lands yet Muslims are found here in the majority as well.

Muslims are not only asked to be kind with humans but they are also encouraged to be kind with animals. Prophet Muhammad (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: Once a woman imprisoned a cat until it died and she did not give it food and water. Because of such an act she was doomed to hell. On this a man asked the Prophet , “Are we rewarded for showing kindness to animals?” the Prophet replied “There is a reward for kindness to every living thing”.

Islam condemns terrorism. Terrorism changes with time. It has always existed in different forms. And if we observe carefully there is a terrorist in all of us. A terrorist is one who terrorizes someone, not just kill or destroy. A policeman is a terrorist for a criminal, a teacher for her students, a parent for his/her children and so on. Terrorism has no religion. The Americans killed the blacks brutally, burned them alive, hanged them to death, tortured them and destroyed their families. They did the same with the Native Americans. It was all for land. Not just the US but many other countries too faced the same fate. Was Islam or Muslims responsible for all that?

It has become a common that if a person is murdered or if a violent incident occurs the first suspect is a Muslim. Just because of a few wrong Muslims, the image of Islam has fallen. But there are evil doers in all religions. That doesn’t mean that the religion is wrong, it’s the followers that are to be blamed because of their lack of religious knowledge.

Islam has always preached peace. It asks it followers to show utmost kindness to all living beings. To give a piece of bread to the hungry, drink to the thirsty, a piece of cloth to the naked, a shelter to the homeless, a home to the orphan etc. It is wrong to believe in what the media says because most of it is lies. The translations of Quran are available in all languages, sites on the internet, Books on certain Islamic subjects, read them and seek the truth yourself and do not blindly accept what the media or people say.
