Reader question

Question: Today my boss asked me that if I can prove him scientifically that heaven and hell exist, then he will accept Islam.Does anyone have any scientific answer?

Praise be to Allah (SWT),

At the offset, let me state that the general premise of the question is false. Why I say this is because the question is being asked keeping in mind that science is the ultimate standard, by which everything may be judged and all things understood. But it is quite well known that this is not the case. There are so many things that science cannot explain.

Science as a subject deals only with what is material and what is understood by its laws and standards. But science cannot even begin to encompass the various creations of the lord. For instance, before the invention of the microscope, it would have been impossible for doctors to know that diseases are caused by microbes. This only goes to prove that science is expanding, and is by no means perfect.

The Quran, on the contrary, has withstood the test of time. Though science cannot prove some of the facts mentioned of the Quran, it cannot disprove it either. Some of the scientific facts that have been discovered in the Quran is a testament to the fact that the Quran is indeed a miraculous book. No other book has withstood this test. There are several inconsistencies in the Bible for instance.

Finally, the seeker of truth should know that Allah (SWT) manifests himself through his creation. If we look around us and at our selves, it becomes clear that life could not have happened by chance. The perfect balance of this universe cannot have been established by itself. There is a master, who controls everything. You must invite your non Muslim friend to Tawheed and accepting the oneness of Allah (SWT) and not debates on whether heaven or hell exist. Also, we must understand that for a believer, the standard is not science, or some philosophy, but the message of Islam that Allah (SWT) has proclaimed through his messenger. If a person understands and accepts your dawah, alhamdulillah. But, if you find that they are stubbornly clinging on to their ideas, it is not worth your time (or theirs) to further engage in useless argument.

May Allah (SWT) grant us all the wisdom to comprehend his deen and to act upon it.
