Islam and health
Brothers and Sisters,
As you may understand, Islam plays a pivotal role in establishing discipline and balance in the lives of believers. And it does this both at the Individual, Family, and Community level. One of the assets of any community is healthy individuals. I think we would better appreciate this fact if we read about the Chernobyl disaster that struck Russia (then USSR) many years ago.
be upon him) showed us many ways to improve our health. One of the forms of treatment that the Prophet
advised his Ummah to use is Cupping. It is also know as Al-Hijaamah in Arabic: There are numerous ahadeeth where the Prophet
encouraged his Ummah to use cupping as a means of treatment. Here are a couple of Ahadeeth on this:
“If there is any good in your medical treatments, it is in the knife of the cupper, drinking honey, or cauterization with fire, as appropriate to the cause of the illness, but I would not like to be cauterized.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 10/139)
According to a hadeeth narrated by Anas ibn Maalik, may Allaah be pleased with him, the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “I did not pass by any group on the night when I was taken on the Night Journey (Isra’), but they said to me, ‘O Muhammad, tell your ummah to do cupping.’” (Reported by Ibn Maajah; it has corroborating evidence which strengthens it).
So as you can see from these Ahadeeth, cupping is a highly recommended and even sought after method of treatment. How cupping is done is not the subject of this post. But I would suggest any one who wants to use this form of treatment to contact any local hakeem (if possible). These are usually practitioners of ‘Tibb an Nabavi’ or Prophetic Medicine. There are many Centers that offer this form of treatment in The Middle East and even in South Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Malaysia.. to name a few)
Cupping is useful in treating:
- Circulatory diseases
- Treating blood pressure and infection of the heart muscle
- Diseases of the chest and trachea
- Headache and pains in the eyes
- Pain in the neck and stomach, and rheumatic pain in the muscles
- Some diseases of the heart and chest, and pain in the joints
These observations have been made by practitioners of the cupping and also from my own personal observation. If you are person that suffers from frequent migraines, then cupping is the best treatment.
We pray that Allah
benefits you with this information and preserves the health of this Ummah, both Physical and Spiritual.
