Dhikr (Supplication) Routine

Zakir is a guy who doesn’t forget to recite the adhkaar (si. Dhikr) in his daily schedule. He’s memorized most of them and he takes care to recite them at their proper times.

Here’s a typical day in the life of Zakir:

4:30 am: Wakes up - Alhamdulillah-hil-lazi Ahyaana ba’damaa amaatanaa wa ilayhin-nushoor.

4:35 am: Goes to the bathroom - Allahumma inni aauzubika minal khubusi wal khabaais

4:45 am: Comes out of bathroom - Ghufraanak

Fajr time: Leaves his house for Salaah - Bismillahi tawakkaltu a’lallahi la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah

Returns home after Salaah: Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajana, wa a’la rabbika tawakkalna

7:00 am: Breakfast time! Before eating - Bismillah

After finishing his meal - Alhamdulillahillazi at’ama wa saqa wa sawwaghahu wa ja’ala lahu makhraja

8:00 am: Leaves for work. Gets in his car - Subhanallazi sakhkhara lana haza wa maa kunna lahu muqrineen wa inna ila rabbina la munqaliboon.

1:00 pm: Lunch time! Before eating - Bismillah

After finishing his meal - Alhamdulillahillazi at’ama wa saqa wa sawwaghahu wa ja’ala lahu makhraja

5:00 pm: Back from work. Enters home- Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajana, wa a’la rabbika tawakkalna

6:30 pm: Recites five pages from the Qur’aan (almost every day), which is also Dhikr.

8:00 pm: Dinner time! Before eating - Bismillah

After finishing his meal - Alhamdulillahillazi at’ama wa saqa wa sawwaghahu wa ja’ala lahu makhraja

9:30 pm: Bed time
Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahiya
Ayatul Kursi
Saying Allahuakbar, Subhanallah, and Alhamdulillah 33 times each
Reciting the last three surahs of the Qur’aan, blowing in to his hands and wiping his body as far as the hands go (does this thrice)

And so ends a day in the life of Zakir. However, this is not all. He remembers Allah (SWT) in everything he does. While sitting, standing, and lying down. And though I haven’t mentioned it, he prays five times a day after which he recites the duas you will find here

If you can think of some more duas that Zakir can recite, feel free to suggest them in the comments section. But be warned! He only recites those duas that he is sure have some basis in the authentic sunnah.
