Al-Jathoom - Have you experienced it?

Picture this - You’re tired after a busy day and ready to hit the sack. You lie down and before you even know it, you’re fast asleep. Bliss… maybe not!

You enter dream land and find yourself in a location you can’t seem to explain. It could be a friend’s house or a street, maybe your local shop. You don’t know why you’re here and you see very few or no people at all… except a wrinkly old woman with a skin tone that’s as dark as her clothes. She’s approaching you. You don’t want her to come near you, but you can’t help it. She draws closer and suddenly grabs hold of you. You’re breathless. You want to be free, you want to be far away from this, you want to ask for help, but your voice is failing you. You’re really scared now… ‘What should I do?!’

Next scene: You wake up in bed, breathing heavily and drenched in perspiration.

Does this sound familiar? Have you, or anyone you know experienced this? Does Islam have something to say?

Well, this answer on Islam Q & A addresses this issue. Some people I know have been troubled immensely by this. While others have felt it, but haven’t been affected.

Please be sure to read the answer on Islam Q & A and come back to share any experiences you’ve had with this. I’m really interested to know what you have to say.

The answer does mention a jinni (female jinn). Usually, they come in this female form.

The answer mentions curing it with ruqyah (Qur’aanic recitation) and Dhikr.
