The Politics of Turmoil

This is a really good summary of events that have taken place in Pakistan. The funny thing is that some people feel that Pakistan will be back to ‘normal’ once Musharraf is gone. I think that’s far from the truth.

There never really was a normal phase in Pakistan’s turbulent history. To me, Pakistan is an experiment in neo-Islamic statehood gone awry. Remember, the whole reason Pakistan was created was to show to the world an example of a true Islamic government. But there has been nothing even remotely Islamic about the place.

From leaders like Zulfiqar Bhutto (who were deeply influenced by the west) to thugs like Musharraf, who thinks he’s enlightened in some way known only to him, Pakistan’s luck when it comes to leaders has always been bad.

The only thing that can save (if there is anything worth saving) Pakistan from total collapse is a bottom up revival movement that is Islamic. But even that is only possible when there is leadership, literacy, and economic well being.

  1. Ugh, if Pakistan was a person, I’d punch him in the face.

They are FAR from Shari’a, they make weirdo laws randomly and everything there is whacked. And as you noted- unfortunately, all of Pakistan’s leaders have been dragging the country down since day one. Actually, I hear great things about Jinnah, but after that, I dunno. I don’t even know how great Jinnah was, never really researched it.

    Grassroots movement, for sure, InshAllah…
