I blame

The state of the Ummah is a dire one indeed. But we didn’t get to this point overnight and there’s no magical cure that’s going to make everything better. The nation bleeds in Iraq, Afghanistan, Philisteen, and Somalia to mention a few places.

Who do we blame for our situation?

I blame myself, the individual, for not leading my life according to principles of Islam. For not praying with sincerity, for not giving up habitual sin, for not respecting my parents, for failing to adhere to the laws and commands of my Lord, and many other vices.

I blame my neighbours and the people in my locality. For allowing their daughters and sons to go to places of sin, for watching vulgar programs on TV with their children without shame, for backbiting, spreading tales, and for slandering others, for thinking ill of one another, for being happy at others’ misfortune, for not teaching our children the basics of our deen, which leaves them ignorant and fair game for other un-Islamic ideals and philosophies.

I blame our leaders, for pandering to the enemies of Allah (SWT)’s chosen religion and selling out this Ummah, for not using the power they have to defend the Muslims when they are being hurt, for not taking action when a Muslim girl in Iraq is raped, for not speaking out when an innocent child in Philisteen is mercilessly killed, for not establishing the laws of Allah (SWT) and allowing alcohol to be bought and sold, for not punishing the guilty and for torturing the innocent, for squandering the wealth of this Ummah on tall buildings that benefit none but the elite.

We’re messed up at many levels and like I said, we didn’t get to where we are in a day. So we won’t be getting out any quicker, unless Allah (SWT) wills otherwise. Insha’Allah (SWT) we will not be questioned for the evil things we had no control over. However, we will be questioned about what was in our control. Like educating our families, by making sure our children are in tune with the values that Islam wants to inculcate. By reminding those who will listen about the punishments that Allah (SWT) has in store for those who transgress the bounds he has set.

Let us resolve to take action today.

To change the things that are on the outside, let’s start by changing what’s within.
