Life is Good!

This post deals with the commonly held perception that if we’re doing well worldly-wise, then Allah (SWT) ‘must’ be pleased with us. Let’s see how true that is

Here’s a question:

If you’ve got all the good things in life, does it mean that Allah (SWT) is pleased with you?

We all know Iblees’ story and how he fell from grace. An interesting point to note is that he prayed to Allah (SWT) that he be granted life till the day of judgement. So that he may mislead mankind. His request was granted. This tells us that you don’t really need to be pious to have your prayers answered. Heck, you don’t even need to be a Muslim.

We have the Fortune list of billionaires. In the top 40 or 50 individuals on that list, you will find very few Muslims. Most of the wealthy people on that list are Non-Muslims, who’ve been given a lot of wealth by Allah (SWT). That wealth may have come through a lot of haraam sources. Not to mention the indulgent lifestyle that many of these people may lead. With all these evils, Allah (SWT) has still given them so much.

I remember a khateeb once quoted a hadeeth, the meaning of which was, ‘The value of the dunya, near Allah (SWT), is lesser than the value of a mosquito’s wing to any one of us. Because if Allah (SWT) really cared about this dunya, then he would not give it to the kuffar’ Subhan’Allah (SWT)! When was the last time you particularly cared about a mosquito’s wing?

Now, going back to my first question; most people may have answered with a straight ‘No.’ If you did, then Alhamdulillah, you’re thinking is far better than many people who seem to believe that a good life in this dunya automatically means that Allah (SWT) is happy with us. However, the examples above tell us that:

- Just because Allah (SWT) answers your prayers, don’t assume that He is pleased with you.
- This dunya has very little value, that’s why the kuffar get a share in it too

That said, we should still pray to Allah (SWT) for success in this dunya and the hereafter. We weren’t sent to this world to shun it. We have to make the best of what we have. Never be fooled in to thinking that Allah (SWT) is happy with us, therefore we can do as we please. There is accountability for every deed.

Keep increasing in sincere worship and keep away from haraam deeds.

Nice post!..But i would like to ask something.. I fully agree that if everything goes well in life, doesnt mean Allah (SWT)(swt) is happy with us. But if,we face lot many problems in life,it is usually said that either your patience is being tested or you are being punished for your sins in the world itself. This is true right?

    Jazakallah khair!

Jazakallah for your comment. Yes, it can certainly be said that any bad that befalls us is either a torment or a test.

The idea is to repent before Allah (SWT) punishes us and be patient when he tests us. Insha’Allah (SWT).
